Sam Mizrahi serves as the proud President and founder of Mizrahi Developments. In addition to leading Mizrahi Developments, Sam is President and founder of Northern Citadel Bancorp, a private company registered with the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) as a Mortgage Investment Trust and Administrator (MIT).
A born entrepreneur, Sam has had a successful career centred on identifying lucrative business opportunities and executing them with noteworthy vision. At the age of 16, Sam founded his first company, Unimax, which imported and sold batteries and blank audio and video cassette tapes to independent stores in Toronto and Montreal. Leading Unimax for four years, Sam built the company into one that enjoyed roughly $18 million in annual revenue.
Sam began his twenty years of experience in real estate development as a young man by studying urban planning and searching for lucrative but overlooked real estate investment opportunities in the Richmond Hill and Oak Ridges areas of Toronto. This intuition about real estate development and drive to find valuable properties firmly prepared him for his leadership role at Mizrahi Developments.
In 1992, Sam founded Dove Cleaners. Successfully leading the company, Sam developed Dove into the largest luxury dry cleaning company in Canada, with more than 100 retail locations and an advanced processing plant. By 2005, Dove had earned a number of awards and distinctions in the industry. Sam then took the company public.
In 2006, Sam returned to real estate and created and launched Mizrahi Design Build, an independent design-build company that offers effective turn-key solutions on a range of residential and mixed-use projects. The company initially focused on custom-built luxury homes in some the most valuable neighbourhoods in Toronto. Well-known for its attention to detail and old-world sensibility for quality and customer care, the company moved into building luxury condominium buildings, including midrise and highrise. With an expertise in high-end sub-contracting, Mizrahi Design Build brings extensive experience with heritage neighbourhoods, zoning, innovative design and construction of the highest international standards.
In 2008, Sam founded Mizrahi Developments. In founding Mizrahi Developments, Sam was realizing his ambition to bring the quality, craftsmanship and sense of permanence that a stand-alone luxury home has to the condominium market. Sam led the company as it expanded into building mid-rise, mixed-use boutique buildings as well as high-rise developments. In the eight years since founding Mizrahi Developments, Sam has demonstrated excellence in working with all stakeholders in heritage neighbourhoods and in streamlining the zoning and approval stages of a project. Sam looks forward to upcoming developments that include 1451 Wellington, 128 Hazelton and The One at the iconic southwest corner of Yonge Street and Bloor Street.
As President of Mizrahi Developments, Sam takes pride from the company being the only builder in Canada, and second in North America, to acquire ISO 9001 certification. Sam is also proud of Mizrahi Developments’ acquisition of widely-regarded environmental credentials, including GreenHouse and Energy Star, as well as the company’s memberships with the Building and Land Development Association (BILD) and the Tarion Warranty Corporation.
Outside of his work at Mizrahi Developments, Sam is highly regarded as a generous and engaged philanthropist who enjoys supporting a wide range of charitable initiatives. Sam has donated to numerous and varied organizations, including Hero Ride for Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, an After Breast Cancer organization, Toronto Zoo, and the West Park Healthcare Centre.
Sam is also a leading philanthropist and participant within the Jewish community. On a charitable basis, Sam built the Temmy Latner Forest Hill Jewish Centre (http://www.foresthilljewishcentre.org), which serves as a community resource in Forest Hill, Toronto, offering educational facilities, such as lecture halls and event venues, daycare and other community-building programs. Additionally, Sam serves as a board member of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSCC), a non-profit organization promoting tolerance and human rights around the world. In 2012 and 2013, Sam co-chaired “Walk with Israel”, the largest annual fundraising event in Toronto and one organized by the United Jewish Appeal (UJA). More recently in 2015, Sam served as a co-chair of UJA’s “Run with Israel” event.
Sam lives in Toronto with his wife and two children. He is licensed as a jet pilot and has a 2nd degree black belt in Jitsu and Ken-Jitsu from Japan. He is also a passionate scuba diver and skier.
